Gone are the days when a winter hen weekend automatically spelled a spa break. If a little retail therapy is in order, check out the numerous Christmas markets in Barcelona. There are plenty of them and they run from the end of November until late December.

Fira de Santa Llucia has been going for over 200 years and is the oldest and most authentically traditional of all Barcelona's Christmas markets. Get into the Catalan festive spirit amidst 300+ stalls selling handmade presents, leather bags, jewellery, mistletoe and Spanish Christmas decorations.

Fira de Nadal a la Sagrada Familia

No hen weekend in Barcelona would be complete without a trip to Gaudi's amazing Sagrada Familia. Cover shopping and sightseeing in one go at the Christmas market in the gardens just outside the city's most famous landmark. Here, you'll find everything from antiques to decorations, wine, food, toys and beautiful knick knacks.

Mostra d'Artesans de la Ribera

Small but perfectly formed, this is the prettiest and most enchanting Christmas market in Barcelona. Located in the atmospheric Born area, it's ideal if you've got a weakness for unique pieces of jewellery and other accessories.
