Activity of the Month: Salsa Dancing

Salsa dancing is sexy, sultry and has loads of va-va voom! It's a smart bet if you've got your mum and/or auntie coming on your hen weekend. Pole dancing requires hot pants and belly dancing requires you to get your tummy out. Not everyone's idea of fun. Salsa on the other hand, is all about the wiggle and simply requires comfy clothing that allows you to move around easily.

Have a salsa dancing hen weekend in Barcelona, Benalmadena, Madrid, Marbella, Puerto Banus or Valencia.

The pros on Strictly make salsa dancing look impressive but wildly complicated and super fast. In reality, picking up the basic steps and arm movements is surprisingly quick and easy. The fancy footwork comes much later, although the basics will make you look like you're on fire in the bars and clubs.

I've tried a fair few hen party activities in my time and salsa dancing was definitely one of the highlights.

Classes differ slightly according to your hen do destination but the vast majority run along the same lines. Your group will get private, professional instruction in a proper dance studio. It'll be in a central location so you won't have far to go.

Most salsa dancing classes in Barcelona, Madrid and other popular hen do destinations in Spain last 90 minutes. After a meet and greet with the instructor, you'll kick off with a fun warm-up to get everyone in the mood.

When everyone's limbered up, you'll learn the basic salsa step. All you do is step on 3 beats, pause for 1 and repeat. That's it. After that, you'll add a few arm movements into the mix and in no time you'll be shimmying across the floor like a Strictly finalist. Well, sort of!

If you like the sound of salsa, check out flamenco dancing too.
